Margaret F. (Tierney) Lynch, 90, of Sanford, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 6, 2014.Margaret was born on February 25, 1924 to Joseph and Margaret (Hunt) Tierney, the oldest of 11 children. She grew up in Arlington, MA where she attended local schools, graduating from Arlington High in 1942. After graduation she worked for several years at TWA (Trans World Airlines) where she met Philip J. Lynch. They were married in 1948 and together they raised six children and shared almost 66 years of marriage. After getting married Margaret left work and devoted the rest of her life to raising and caring for her family.Margaret and her husband resided in many different places during their years together. They lived in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Florida and South Carolina before settling in Maine 10 years ago. She was a devout Catholic and had been a member of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford. She enjoyed playing tennis and golf. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.Beloved wife of Philip J. Lynch, of Sanford and loving mother of Philip J. Lynch Jr., of Litchfield, New Hampshire, Maureen E. Lynch and her husband John Michael of Westford, MA, Margaret A. (Lynch) Scott and her husband Edward of Tewksbury, MA, Peter J. Lynch and his wife Nancy of Chester, NH, Paul F. Lynch and his partner Douglas Lundeen of Acton, ME and Michael J. Lynch of Sanford, ME; beloved sister of Jean (Tierney) Jenkins and her husband William of Sandwich, MA, Paul Tierney and his wife Carol of Falmouth, MA and Richard Tierney of New York; grandmother of five grandchildren, Richard and Kenneth Lynch, Jeffrey and Timothy Varitimos and Courtney Lynch and one great-grandson, Shane Lynch.Margaret was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Christine Lynch, and seven siblings, Joseph, John, Eileen (Garych), James, Robert, Ann and William Tierney.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 17th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located at 66 North Avenue in Sanford, ME.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 170 US Route 1, Suite 200, Falmouth, ME 04105 or the Joslin Diabetes Center, c/o Development Department, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please visit www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
