Roy L. Locke, 92, of Alfred, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Lyman on March 7, 1916, a son of Bert and Bertha Locke. He attended local schools and then served his country in the US Navy during WWII. It started in the Navy blue, defending us in WWII. Then he saw a gem that walked by, not on her finger but in her eye. Now they sit with nine more in the picture, knowing the family would get even bigger. Their wish came true as it grew and grew. Through five generations of a house so loud, but his quiet look made us know he was proud. Gatherings at Thanksgiving, Christmas and more, we would hold a love for each other no one can ignore. So the time has come now that four years have passed, for his to join our gram for a love that will last. So when we hear the quiet hum of bee's, we'll stop and smile to feel them in the summer breeze. Roy is predecased by his wife, Dorothy (Stanley) Locke, He is survived by his children, James Locke of Alfred, Robert Locke of Rhode Island, Diane Locke of Alfred, Phyllis McDonald of Waterboro, Sally Hobkirk of Starks, FL, Donna Palmer of Alfred, Linda Tripp of Acton, Sandra Locke of Alfred and Nancy Lebrun of Alfred, one brother, one sister, 25 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.Burial will be at a later date at the Southern Maine Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.Arrangements are under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. To leave a message of condolence please use the "condolences" tab to the left.
