Gordon Lenwood Littlefield

Gordon L. Littlefield, age 60, resident of Main Street, Sanford died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004 at the Newton Center. He was born January 9, 1944 a son of Grover and Ruth (Ainsworth) Littlefield and attended Sanford schools. Gordon was nicknamed "The Mayor" - He knew most everyone in town, as he was a "main stay" on the Main Street of Sanford. Gordon was a hard worker and worked many years for Shaw Hardware. He could be seen unloading trucks and getting inventory placed outside the store and taken back in for the evening.He shoveled the walkways for Sanford Institute for Savings, the Sanford First Baptist Church and other businesses in town. Mr. Littlefield worked many years as a janitor at the Town Hall and at Riverside Cemetery in Springvale. Gordon enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and keeping track of the weather and local news.He had a soft spot for animals and his cat; Misty gave him many hours of companionship and friendship.Survivors include one sister, Marie Roberson and one brother, Robert Littlefield both of Sanford. Also, several nieces and nephews.A Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday, Feb. 7th.
