SANFORD - Richard C. (Rick) Libbey, Jr. March 20, 1954 - July 10, 2010Rick Libbey, my husband and best friend of 34 years, recently passed away from the cruel disease we know as lung cancer. Rick married me, Frances (Caron) Libbey on a beautiful April morning in 1976. We had a wonderful marriage with the typical ups and downs. His outgoing personality brought me out of my shell. He taught me to always to accept people for who they are and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He would always say, "Don't worry Fran, it doesn't matter", which became his favorite saying of, "It don't matter." He was the best thing in my life and was there for me though the good times and the bad. He could make me laugh and hated to see me cry, I know he loved me very much.Over the years he enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, travel, playing pool, softball and his passion playing the drums. He would always be the first one to say "Yes" if anyone needed a band for a benefit. He loved the Sanford Elks Lodge and everyone in it!! But most of all, he loved his family! His son Nate was like a buddy to him from the time Nate was young. It was like two kids, playing catch, wrestling or playing board games. Nate may not look like Rick, but his passion and talent for drums was truly inherited from his dad. Rick was very proud of that! He has grown up to be a wonderful man with Rick's talents, love of family and sense of humor. He is now, along with his sister, Nicki, my rock.Nicki, his little princess was definitely "Daddy's little girl". She knew how to get to him from the day she was born. She is so much like her dad. She has the same outgoing personality and looks a lot like him. She loved to play board games with dad and sings with the band. Rick loved to watch her play field hockey. Nate and Nicki will miss their dad, but he lives on in them everyday! He was so proud of the obstacles they overcame and the strong, caring adults they are now.Rick's family includes his loving parents, Dick and Shirley Libbey; in-laws Don and Louise Caron, Donna and Mark Gallant, Steve and Margret Caron, John Caron, Dan and April Caron, Marion and Tom Fromwiller and our best friends, Steve and Margo Martel. He was the "fun" uncle to 12 nieces and nephews. His list of friends, through work, softball, and the Elks, and anyone he encountered is enormous. He was truly one of a kind!I will miss him than anyone knows, but I am so very happy to have had him in my life for close to 39 years. He will always be the love of my life. I am proud of the way he handled these last few months and will carry him in my heart until we meet again. "Rick, I love you always and miss you. I leave you in God's hands where you will be waiting for all of us!"He was a 1972 graduate of Sanford High School and worked 38 years for General Electric in Somersworth. There will be a funeral service on Thursday, July 15th at 4:00 pm at the Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary's Church on Eldridge Road in Wells.
