Donald G. L'Heureux, 84, a lifelong resident of Sanford passed away on Wednesday November 26, 2014 at Huntington Common in Kennebunk. He was born in Sanford on March 17, 1930 a son of the late Wilfred and Yvette (Vachon) L'Heureux. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1949. He then enrolled at St. Anselm College and attended for one year. He then enlisted in the US Air Force and proudly served four years during the Korean Conflict.After completion of his enlistment he enrolled at St. Francis College in Biddeford where he received his Bachelors Degree. Donald also earned his Masters in Counseling from the University of Portland- Gorham in 1971. Donald taught high school at St. Ignatius from 1959 to 1961, Kennebunk High School from 1962 to 1971. He was with the Sanford School District from 1972 until 1994 where he served as both teacher and guidance counselor. He was a well beloved teacher and had high school yearbooks dedicated to him numerous times. A devout catholic he was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Parish.. An avid pigeon racer he had been a member of the Sanford Pigeon Racing Club. He served as Past President of the Sanford Club as well as the Northeast combine. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, golf and any activity that brought him outdoors. He was also heavily involved in youth athletics and had coached many teams over the years.He is predeceased by his granddaughters, Kelsey, Kaitlyn, and one brother, Fr. Conrad L'Heureux.A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Noreen (Reid) L'Heureux of Sanford, sons, Donald C. L'Heureux and his wife, Kelly of Falmouth, Conrad L'Heureux and his wife, Michelle of Meriden, NH, Terence L'Heureux and his wife, Karla of Sanford, grandchildren, Lauren, Ian, Colin, Jessie, Eric, Nicholas, sisters, Muriel Parry of Silver Spring, MD, and Roberta Jacobs of Columbia, MD.The family would like to thank the staff of the Huntington Common for the loving care and dignity given to Donald.Visiting hours will be on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM a the Lafrance -Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church.
