Phyllis P. Lewis, 95, of Sanford, died August 19 at home with her loved ones by her side.She was born in Dennysville on May 3, 1918, one of nine children born to P. A. and Ruth (Leighton) Jones. She attended Dennysville schools and was a graduate of Dennysville High School.She worked as a waitress in New York City and in Hartford, CT where she met Herbert L. Lewis. They married and moved to the outer banks of North Carolina. She moved back to Sanford in 2000 to assist her sister with the care of her husband through his lengthy illness and has resided with her since.Phyllis loved to travel. She visited Alaska, France and took numerous bus tours all over eastern Canada and the United States. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid reader, subscribing to many magazines.She was described by her family as likable, outgoing, witty, generous, compassionate and kind. A woman who lived her life well.Her husband Herbert died in 1983.Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Jones and her husband Andrew, two grandchildren, Alisha Maybe and John A. Jones, all of Georgia, her sister Roberta Picard of Sanford and many nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday at 10 AM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Springvale.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
