Marlene C. Lewis
Marlene C. Lewis, 73, of Shapleigh, died on Saturday, May 12, 2012 in Sanford.Marlene was born in Sanford on July 31, 1938 to John and Shirley (Whitting) Clements where she grew up and attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School in 1956. When she was 18 she moved to New York where she resided for the next 35 years.Marlene worked for the State of New York for over 30 years as administrative director of Letchworth Village which provides housing for the mentally disabled. In 1994 she retired and moved back to Maine to be closer to her family. Marlene enjoyed staying busy. After moving to Maine she took two part time jobs working for Marketing Decisions and the Red Cross.Marlene was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. While she lived in New York she had been an active member of both the Fire Department and the Police Department Ladies Auxiliaries. She had formerly attended the Sanford First Baptist Church. Marlene will be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother and daughter who made a difference in the lives of everybody around her. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.Surviving are two children, David J. Lewis III and his wife Clarissa of Baltimore, MD and Deborah Simons and her husband Jackie, Sr. of Shapleigh; four grandchildren, Tana Simons of Manchester, NH, Cori Simons of Dover, NH, Jackie Simons Jr. of Dover, NH and Sara Simons of Zolfo Springs, Florida, six great-grandchildren Alex, Avaiah, Amaya, Kaivon, Natalie and Kayla; three siblings, Shirley A. Clements of Sanford, Beverly Anderson of Sanford and John Clements of Shapleigh and many nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. Interment will take place at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Disabled American Veterans, Memorial Program, P.O.
