Maurice R. Letourneau, 85, of Sanford, died on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Southern Main Health Care in Sanford.Maurice was born in Rochester on January 2, 1929 to Alphonse and Blanche (Gallant) Letourneau. He grew up in Sanford where he attended local schools. Following high school he enlisted in the Army National Guard where he proudly served for 48 years. He was employed at the machinist at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he worked for 32 years until he retired in 1989. Following his retirement from the shipyard he worked for 12 years as a driver for NCS Health Care in Kennebunk and then for three years as a pharmacy technician at Omnicare in Westbrook.Maurice had been an active member of the Sanford Elks Lodge and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing bingo, going to the beach and taking trips, especially traveling to Canada to visit his cousins. One of his more memorable trips was when he traveled to Las Vegas with his daughter and son-in-law. Maurice will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother and friend and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Maurice was predeceased by his first wife, Irene Letourneau in 1988 and two brothers, Rene Letourneau and Romeo "Pete" Letourneau.Surviving are his wife, Donna Letourneau of Sanford; his daughter, Tammy Beaupre and her husband Brian of Waterboro; his sister, Rosilyn Pecor and her husband Franklin of Jaffery, NH; several nieces and nephews and his faithful pets.Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, February 2nd at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 3rd at 10:00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment with military honors will take place in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the animal shelter of their choice or the Alzheimer's Association, 383 US Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, Maine 04073.
