Winifred "Winnie" D. Letourneau, 83, of Sanford, died on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Newton Center in Sanford.Winifred was born in Starksboro, VT on April 6, 1929 to Hugh and Ethel (White) Taft. She grew up in Bristol, VT where she attended local schools. In 1948, she married Rene Letourneau and together they shared 64 years of marriage until his death on May 11th . Winifred's life was devoted to raising and caring for her family. She enjoyed making crafts which she would often sell at the Old Timers Shop in Sanford. When she was younger she enjoyed camping and also served as a den mother for the Boy Scouts and the Brownies. She grew up on a farm where she developed a love of animals. She was particularly fond of cats and enjoyed their company throughout most of her life. She loved going to Bingo with her husband and playing cards in the afternoon with several of her friends. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother with a youthful spirit, a quick wit, and a great sense of humor she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.Winifred was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Rene Letourneau; a son, Dwight Letourneau; and a half-sister Dorothy McEntee of Vermont.Surviving are a son, Eric Letourneau of Springvale, who has lovingly cared for Mr. And Mrs. Letourneau during their period of declining health; a daughter, Beverly Dart and her husband Jerry of Acton, a step-daughter, Bonnie (Eubar) Dumont and her husband Roger of Harpswell, ME; a half-brother Richard Taft of Vermont; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.A graveside service for Rene and Winifred will be held on June 21st at 10:00a.m. at St. Ignatius Cemetery, located on Berwick Road in Sanford.Arrangements are under the direction of Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford, ME.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Maine Children's Cancer Program, 100 Campus Drive, Scarborough, ME 04074.To leave a message of condolence for the family please visit www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
