Donald G. Legere, 55, of Sanford, passed away at home on June 24 after a long illness.He was born in Sanford on January 8, 1952, a son of Gerard and Gabrielle (Leblanc) Legere.He attended local schools and was a 1970 graduate of Sanford High School. After high school, he enlisted with the US Air Force where he served eight years assigned to the Red Horse Civil Engineers. He especially loved his assignment to a base in Alaska where he enjoyed the hunting and fishing. He was a graduate of the Air Force NCO Leadership School and was a recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal.After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Don worked in the building trades for most of his life. He was employed with Wasco and with Architectural Skylighting as an installation foreman before retiring due to declining health.Don loved sports, fishing, the companionship of his many friends, crossword puzzles, chess, playing the stock market, and collecting 'collectables.'Throughout Don's long illness, his sense of humor put others at ease and his only thought was to make his situation easier for everyone else.Don was predeceased by his brother Roger Legere.Survivors include his parents of Sanford, 3 brothers, Richard Legere and his wife Reina of McQueeney, TX, Mark Legere of Brewerton, NY, James Legere and his wife Michelle of Springvale, 6 sisters, Linda Baker and her husband Gary, Elaine Schultz, Renee Roy and her husband Bruce, Sandra Payeur and her husband Michael, all of Sanford, Denise Deering and her husband Roger of E. Waterboro, Laura Mayo and her husband Rob of Bryan's Road, MD, several nieces, nephews and many close friends he considered family.Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 1:00 PM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, St. Ignatius Church.
