Althea M. LeBreux, 83, a longtime resident of Sanford, died November 2 at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco after a lengthy illness.She was born in Biddeford on March 28, 1923, a daughter of Hampton E. and Elsie (Hobbs) Merrill.She was raised in the Shaker community at Sabbathday Lake from 1934 to 1942, and wrote a book about her experiences entitled Shaker Girl.She served in the WAVES during World War II as a hospital corpsman first class from June of 1943 until October of 1945.Althea had been employed over the years with the Goodall-Sanford Textile Mills, the Sanford Dress Shop and with Brooks Woolen, retiring in 1985.She enjoyed reading and composing poetry and had poetry published in World of Poetry.Her husband, Robert O. LeBreux, Sr., died in 1987.Survivors include a son, Robert O. LeBreux, Jr. of Avon Park, FL, 2 sisters, Majorie Merrill and Lucy Crockett both of No. Berwick, and several nieces and nephews.A private service will be held at the convenience of the family with burial to be in Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred.
