Gaston Lebeau
Gaston Lebeau, 96, of Shapleigh, died Saturday at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford with his loving family by his side.Gaston was born in Sanford in May 22, 1911, a son of Alberic and Marie Jeanne (Gauthier) Lebeau and attended local schools.He was drafted in 1942 and served in the US Army during World War II in France as an interpreter for Colonel McManus.Gaston worked for most of his life in several local shoe shops, retiring at the age of 63. In 1982 he moved to Shapleigh where he picked up the hobbies of gardening and selling his vegetables along the roadside on Route 109 along with second hand windows and doors.On his 94th birthday, Gaston proudly received the Boston Post Cane Award from the town selectmen for being the oldest resident in Shapleigh.Gaston was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church.He was predeceased by his parents, 2 brothers, Adrien (AJ) and Tony, 3 sisters, Jeannette Rooney, Lillian Fontaine and Irene Guignard.Surviving is a sister, Anita Langlais with whom he resided in Shapleigh. Although a bachelor, Uncle Gaston proudly took over the duties of a fill-in grandfather to his nephew Dick Langlais, his wife Muriel and their three children David, Renee and Michelle and later to their children Elizabeth, Ethan and Kyle who were the love of his life and he was to them.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 :00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church in Springvale. Burial will be in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. McGuckin and his staff, all personnel from the Gentiva Health Services and the staffs at Newton Center and Goodall Hosptial for the wonderful care and compassion given to him and his family.Condolences may be expressed at the condolences at left.
