Russell C. Leavitt
Russell C. Leavitt, 84, of Sanford, passed away on Wednesday April 3, 2013 at the Coastal Manor in Yarmouth. He was born in Sanford on April 12, 1928 a son of the late Marion E. Leavitt. He was a lifelong resident of Sanford except for his last few years in residence at the Manor. He was loved by the staff for his friendliness and often sat by the door greeting people as they came and went. Russell worked for the Sanford Sewer Company most of his career. He also worked for the Harrison Garage. He sold Florsheim Shoes and uniforms as a home based business. He also ran a car detailing business from his home. He loved animals and gardening. He always had a dog and grew vegetables flowers. Russell was known for his friendliness, generosity and honesty by everyone who knew him.He is predeceased by his mother, Marion E. Leavitt, uncle, Arthur Leavitt, former wife, Phyllis Guptill Leavitt.He is survived by a sister, Phyllis Leavitt of Brunswick, niece, Tobi Nichols and her husband, Joe of Brunswick, two great nephews, Alex and Sam of Brunswick, stepdaughter, Arlene Harding Welch and her husband, Rev. Dr. Linwood H. Welch of Rockland and their children, Keith and Linda Welch of Portland, Craig Welch of Scarborough, Kimberly and David Grover of Scarborough.A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 10th at 11AM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, with Pastor Michael Lauziere officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home beginning at 10AM until the time of the service. Committal prayers will follow at Oakdale Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Linwood H.
