David W. Leavitt, II, 76 years old, of Sanford died Thursday, April 8, 2004 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford. He was born December 27, 1927 in Brookline, MA a son of Albert and Lillian (Gill) Leavitt, Sr. David graduated from Wellesley High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Leavitt will be remembered as an adventurous spirit with a wonderful sense of humor. Mr. Leavitt was a woodsman who worked at the Leavitt Plantation. David enjoyed operating C.B. radios, wrestling and Harley Davidson Motorcycles. Mr. Leavitt took great pleasure in studying history and being active with politics. He was a philanthropist, one who believed in Good Will towards All Men. Mr. Leavitt was predeceased by two brothers, George Meredith Leavitt and Albert Willard Leavitt, Jr. Survivors include his sister, Gaylee MacGregor of Parsonsfield, ME and Charlottesville, Virginia. Two nephews, Peter Leavitt of Sanford and Albert Leavitt of Nottingham, NH. Five nieces, Gaylee Lockwood of Wellesley, MA; Gaylee McHugh of Parsonsfield, ME; Linda Leavitt of Dover, NH; Melissa O'Hara of Rochester, NH and Pattilee Petreycik of Bridgeport, CT. Visitation will be held at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, ME on Sunday, April 11, 2004 from 4- 5 p.m. followed by a gathering at the Heald Family Center located next to the funeral home, for light refreshments with the family from 5 - 6 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held later in the spring.Memorial donations may be made to the Sanford Fire and Rescue, C/O the Sanford Treasures Office, 919 Main Street, Sanford, ME 04073.
