Mary A. "Tony" Lavertue, 100, of Sanford, died on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Tony was born in Methuen, Massachusetts on June 13, 1913 to Philip and Cordelia Croteau where she grew up and attended local schools. She was married to Andre J. Lavertue with whom she raised one daughter. In 1946 she moved to Sanford, Maine where she would reside for the rest of her life. During her working years she was employed at the Pacific Mills in Lawrence, Massachusetts, the Goodall Mills in Sanford, Maine and the Baxter Woolen Mills in East Rochester, New Hampshire. After she retired from the mills she operated a daycare out of her home for approximately 10 years.Tony was a devout Catholic and had been a communicant of St. Ignatius Parish and later St. Therse of Lisieux Parish as well as a member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She also belonged to the Trafton Senior Center in Sanford where she would go to exercise twice a week. She enjoyed knitting and would often knit mittens which she would donate to Camp Waban or sell at the church fairs. Tony will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will be dearly missed.Tony was predeceased by her husband, Andre J. Lavertue and by several brothers and sisters.Surviving are her daughter, Theresa Conley and her husband Floyd of Beverly, Massachusetts; three grandchildren, David Conley and his wife Ruth of Topsfield, Massachusetts, Linda Colby of Bradenton Beach, Florida and Sandra Martyn of Virginia; two great grandchildren, Alex Martyn of Salem, Massachusetts, Kahri Martyn of Georgetown, Massachusetts; one sister, Irene Cairns of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Thursday, November 7th at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 8th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church located on North Avenue in Sanford.
