Anita G. Langlais

Anita G. Langlais 97, of Shapleigh, died February 26 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford after a long illness, with her loving family by her side.She was born in Sanford on December 18, 1915, the daughter of Alberic and Marie Jeanne (Gauthier) Lebeau and was a graduate of The Academy Of Saint Joseph in South Berwick and Sanford High School class of 1934. After the death of her husband Albert Langlais in 1966, she moved back to this area to be closer to her family. She was a devout Catholic with a strong faith in St. Therese and attended daily mass for years. She was known to have her rosary in hand whenever she sat down and EWTN was the channel to watch. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church where she was a member of The Ladies of St. Anne and volunteered at the parochial school for several years. Nothing gave her more joy than to be with little children. She finally settled in Shapleigh living with her brother Gaston for over 30 years. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Adrien, Anthony and Gaston, three sisters, Jeannette Rooney, Lillian Fontaine and Irene Guignard, and several nieces and nephews.Survivors include her son Richard Langlais and his wife Muriel of Shapleigh, grandson David Langlais, his fiance Vickey and her children Zachary & Dakota of Springvale, granddaughter Renee Durgin, her husband Kevin and their son Kyle of Scarborough, granddaughter Michelle Lord, her husband Jonathan and their children Elizabeth and Ethan of Alfred, her son Albert Langlais and his wife, grandson Christopher Langlais and his wife Khryste, granddaughter Sarah Langlais and her children, Heather, James and Christine. She also is survived one great-great grandchild. At the time of her passing, Mrs. Langlais was the longest surviving resident of Shapleigh, which would have enabled her to be next in line to receive The Boston Cane Award, which her brother Gaston received at the age of 94 in 2005, presented to him by the late selectman of Shapleigh, Mrs. Ruth Ham. Her hobbies were reading, making crosswords puzzles and baking. She would bake a daily cake or cookies for her brother and make treats for her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They would never leave with one cookie, but a bag full. Summertime she would spend hours baking zucchini breads for all the families which everyone looked forward to.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 8 from 5 to 7 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9 at 10:00AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish at Notre Dame Church, 10 Payne Street, Springvale.
