Steve Kimball

Steven W. Kimball, 53, of Springvale, died June 18 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness.He was born in Sanford on February 6, 1955, the son of Wesley and Joan (Hotchberg) Kimball, attended local schools and was a 1973 graduate of Sanford High School.Steve was at his happiest on a baseball diamond. He played in the former Sanford Men's Softball League. But his first love was coaching youth baseball. He coached at all levels in Sanford from the Sanford-Springvale Youth Athletic Association, to Sanford Little League, to Babe Ruth, to American Legion to the Twilight League. He sometimes had two games going at the same time and would have to run back and forth across Roberts Street between the Little League park and Goodall Park, changing his cap as he went. He also coached football and basketball for the SSYAA.Steve was a jovial man and a great wit. He was upbeat and usually had a quip to share. He enjoyed simple things like relaxing on his porch, backyard barbecues and man-trips to Moosehead to ice fish or to hunt. He had several favorite professional sports teams, including the Red Sox, the Patriots, the Celtics, the Atlanta Braves and the Dallas Cowboys. He took great joy in the recent successes of the teams in Boston. Steve was a member of the Lafayette Social Club, the Wolves Club and the American Legion.Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Diane (Beattie) Kimball of Springvale, son Dustin Kimball, his wife Jamie and their daughters Ryleigh and Payton of Sanford, son Shaun Kimball and his son Wyatt of Sanford, father and stepmother Wesley and Marie Kimball of Wells, mother and stepfather, Joan and Sherm Hardy of Sanford, brother Glenn Kimball, his wife Kim of No. Berwick, stepsister Shelly Pray and her husband Mark of Scarborough, stepbrother Jim Walsh of Sanford and several nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford, on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday at 10:00 AM at the Curtis Lake Christian Church, Westview Drive, Sanford, with Pastor Rick Leach officiating.
