Kerry Ann Kiernan, 45, of Sanford, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 due to an automobile accident.She was born on May 1st, 1972 to Thomas and Dawn (Brooks) Kiernan, in Smithtown, New York. Kerry grew up on Long Island, NY, and attended local schools. In her teen years, she moved to Sanford and graduated from Sanford High School in 1990. She was also the first girl to play football for the Sanford High School football team. She then moved back to New York and enlisted in the Army Reserves for a brief time, before starting a family. Kerry had three children, and finally moved back to Maine where her fourth child, a daughter, was born.She was employed at the York County Deputy Sherriff's Office as the Deputy Sherriff for about eight years, and then was self employed with her own small businesses. During that time, she raised her four children on her own, and coached and supported them in all of their sports including football and activities including coaching softball for SSYAA for over ten years. Being a dynamic woman, she was talented in many areas. She played the position of full back on the Maine Freeze Women's Football Team, she had a black belt in karate, she loved music and liked to sing karaoke, was a dancer, an athlete, and was brilliant. She achieved an associate's degree and was a couple of classes shy of her bachelor's degree in Psychology. She also liked movies, collected them, and she loved to shop.Kerry's family remembers her as the protector of the family. She was strong and was said to be the "glue" that held them together. She was very loving and had a great sense of humor, with a very distinctive laugh. She is also remembered for the scent of her Red Door perfume, and her red lipstick. She was an amazing mother, sister, and friend. Kerry impacted more people than she realized. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to Scarlett, and she had another grand baby on the way. She was much loved and will be dearly missed. Kerry is predeceased by her Grandma Grace, Uncle Butch, and Aunt Dale.Survivors include her mother Dawn Brooks, of Dixfield, her father Thomas Kiernan and his wife Debra, of New Hampshire, a son Jonathan Anatra, of Sanford, a daughter Alexis Anatra and her significant other Jonathan Schroder, of Sanford, a son Daniel Anatra and his significant other, Danielle Morley, of Sanford, a daughter Amanda Kiernan, of Sanford, a granddaughter, Scarlett Anatra ,a sister, Tracy Kiernan and her significant other, Nina Russem, a sister, Denise Barefoot, of North Carolina, a brother Thomas Kiernan, of Massachusetts, a niece Kelsey Policastro, and a nephew, Shawn Policastro, a great nephew Jayden McDonald, cousins Tommy Lowth, of New York, Carmen and Mario Sanchez among many others, and special friends, Craig Janowicz, Jen Mahoney, and Jen Demuria, all of New York.Relatives and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Sunday, January 28, 2018, from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., and Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Go Fund Me Page for Kerry at https://www.gofundme.com/5a6ec-tragic-loss-of-kerry-kiernan To leave a message of condolence please click tab at left.
