Helen R. Jenkins, 80, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Helen was born in Medford, MA on February 12, 1927 to Herbert and Pauline Brauer Woodward. She graduated from Somerville High School and as a young woman she worked as a stenographer. Music was a big part of Helen's life. She had been a member of several different choirs as well as a choir director at several churches. In the 1960's, she sang for radio broadcasts of church services on a Christian radio station. She had been a member of the Second Baptist Church in Lebanon. She enjoyed volunteering at the churches that she was affiliated with over the years, helping out with various church functions. During the early 1980's, she worked as a secretary at a Christian School in New York. She was also very generous over the years and would often send contributions to various Christian charities.Helen always kept a warm and welcoming home for her family to enjoy. She took pride in keeping a nice house and cooking meals for her family. She was a devoted Christian woman and she passed her Christian values on to her children. Mrs. Jenkins was very friendly and enjoyed socializing with her family and her friends from church. She had a wonderful sense of humor. When Helen's husband retired, they sold their house and bought an RV. They spent seven years traveling up and down the east coast from Canada to Florida. These were very happy years for her. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Charles E. Jenkins of Lebanon; two sons, Kenneth C. Jenkins and his wife Linda of North Berwick and Leslie E. Jenkins and his wife Linda of Uxbridge, MA; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Karen, Matthew, Aaron, Nathan and Leah; 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces.A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, September 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 7th at the North Berwick First Baptist located in North Berwick. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226, ATTN: Contribution Services.
