Charles Otis Huntress II, 82, of Shapleigh, died on Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Gosnell Hospice Home of Scarborough.Charles was born in Shapleigh on January 16, 1933 to Carl and Carlotta (Dunn) Huntress. He grew up in Shapleigh where he attended local schools. He married Joan (Martel) Huntress on October 10, 1959. Together they raised three sons and shared 55 years of marriage. One of his many accomplishments in life was returning to Sanford High School, receiving his full diploma in 1993 at the age of 60. During his working years, Charles was a Tool and Cutter Grinder/Machinist, retiring from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.Dad lived his life serving others. He was a devoted husband and father, giving everything that he had within him for his family. Throughout the years he also served at various times as a Shapleigh Town Selectman, volunteer policeman, volunteer fire department, volunteer EMT, Town Constable, Boy Scouts and 4-H Clubs. His greatest joy was serving at the Shapleigh First Baptist Church. Over the years he served as Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School teacher, Youth Group Director and many numerous church responsibilities. We all remember dad as the "Go To" person in church for everything from building repairs to visitation and discipleship. One of his many projects are the beautiful round stained glass windows in the steeple of the Shapleigh Baptist Church which he personally designed and crafted. Even two weeks before he entered into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, he accompanied the Pastor on visitation and shared the Gospel with those he visited. Having Jesus Christ as his Savior and desiring the same for his family and friends, was his greatest joy in life. Charles is predeceased by his wife Joan M. Huntress, of Shapleigh. Surviving are his three sons, Richard Huntress and his wife Wendy of Waterboro, Bruce Huntress and his wife Nancy of Yelm, Washington and Steven Huntress and his wife Denise of Limerick; eight grandchildren, Kara Huntress, Ariel Huntress, Jenny Cochrane, Steve Cross, Nathan Huntress, Charlie Huntress, Gabrielle Huntress and Alex Huntress; a brother, Fred Huntress of Shapleigh and many nieces, nephews.Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM with a funeral service following at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Shapleigh located at 600 Shapleigh Corner Road in Shapleigh. Interment will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
