George A. Hersom

George A. Hersom, Sr., 92, of Sanford, died April 27 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford.He was born in Sanford on January 26, 1914, a son of Fred and Jessie (Jacobs) Hersom.He was employed over the years as a loom fixer, first with the Goodall-Sanford Textile Mills and then with the Pepperell Manufacturing Co. in Biddeford, retiring in 1976. He especially enjoyed his home on Mt. Hope and in his retirement he operated a small business out of it sharpening lawnmower blades.He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years Arrietta (Cotton) Hersom in 2002, by his brothers Clifford Hersom, Harold Hersom and Edward Hersom, by his sisters Marion Huot and Evelyn Dupre, and by a great granddaughter Grace Hersom.Survivors include his daughter, Eleanor Bourque of Springvale, 2 sons, George A. Hersom, Jr. and his wife Carol of Sanford, Roy Hersom and his wife Nancy of Shapleigh, a brother Frank Hersom of Farr West, Utah, 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, where a funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 1 PM with the Rev.
