Eva Almeida, 83, of East Waterboro died on Saturday, August 16, 2008 in Waterboro.Eva was born in Somerset, MA on April 1, 1925 to Edmund and Mary (Soares) Arruda where she attended local schools. In 1953, she married John Almeida, Jr and the couple moved to Warren, RI where they lived until moving to Maine 21 years ago. While living in Rhode Island, Mrs. Almeida was employed at the American Tourister Luggage Company. Eva was a very friendly person. She enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels which is based out of the Sanford Armory. She also liked cooking, crocheting, flower gardening, watching game shows, doing crossword puzzles and reading mystery novels. Going for rides in the car were always a pleasure. These excursions would often end at Walmart which she jokingly called her "second home." She was an animal lover and had a particular fondness for her three cats. Mrs. Almeida enjoyed spending time with people. Going to lunch with her friends was always something that she looked forward to. She was very devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandson. She will be remembered as a kind and loving woman and will be deeply missed by her friends and family. Eva was predeceased by her parents, her husband, John Almeida, Jr. and two brothers, Edmund and Gilbert Arruda.Surviving are a son, John Almeida of Waterboro; a grandson, Craig Almeida, a granddaughter, Heather Almeida, and a great-grandson, Shawn Almeida all of Saco; two brothers, Charles January of Swansea, MA and John Arruda of Fall River, MA and a sister, Lucy Munsch of California.Visiting hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 21st at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 22nd at St. Philip's Roman Catholic Church in Lyman.
