Richard L. Ham 55, of Ham's Camp Rd., died Friday morning February 28, 2003 at the Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.He was born April 27, 1947 in Wolfeboro, NH; the son of Richard E. ham and the late Dolores Rand Ham."Dickie" was a graduate of the Sanford H.S. class of 1966. Following graduation he served in the United States Army where he earned the National Defense and Marksman awards.He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a shipwright in shop # 64 for 19 years. He received many awards for his ability to find creative ways to recycle used materials, thus saving the Navy tens of thousands of dollars. After his retirement in 1999 he did odd jobs throughout town including the building many homes."Dickie" was an avid hunter and a past member of the Acton Fire Department. He enjoyed working outdoors and spent many hours tending his vegetable garden. Surviving is his father Richard E. Ham and a brother Robin Ham both of Acton; two sisters, Sylvia McCray of Salem Il, and Roberta Millican of South Portland, ME. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.A period of visitation will be held on Tuesday March 4, 2003 from 4 to 8 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, Springvale; where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday the 5th at 10:00 AM for "Dickie"In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Acton Rescue, PO Box 185, Acton, ME 04001.
