Philip J. Guertin
Philip J. Guertin, 80, of Sanford, died Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Greenwood Center in Sanford.Mr. Guertin was born in Sanford on January 8, 1927 to Albert and Mabel Morin Guertin. He attended Holy and St. Ignatius Schools followed by Sanford High School. Philip left Sanford High School before graduating to enter the military. He served in the Navy during WWII as a Machinist Mate 3Rd Class in the South Pacific with the 53rd Naval Construction Battalion. In 2003 he received his diploma from Sanford High School. Philip was employed for eight years by Pratt & Whitney and then for 17 years by the Baker Company. He retired in 1988. He was a charter member of the V.F.W. in Sanford and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks and the American Legion. Mr. Guertin was a communicant of St. Ignatius Parish. His life revolved around his family. He was a very devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He had a very outgoing and friendly personality and loved talking to people. Philip will be remembered for his warm demeanor and his devotion to his family and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.Mr. Guertin was predeceased by his wife, Elsie Michaud in February.Surviving are a son, Thomas L. Guertin and his wife Merrill of Raceland, LA; a daughter, Elaine Sevigny and her husband Richard of Sanford; a sister, Delores Baron and her husband Gerard of Wells; 6 Grandchildren, Lisa Gomberg and her husband Martin of San Antonio, TX, Raylynn Schoner and her husband Scott of Piscataway, NJ, Karen Williams of Sanford, Michelle Gagnon and her husband Patrick of Rochester, NH, Thomas Sevigny and his wife Julie of Sanford and James Sevigny and his wife Michelle of Sanford; 12 Great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 28th at Lafrance -Lambert & Black Funeral Home, located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, St. Ignatius Church on Wednesday, August 29th at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Greenwood Center for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Guertin and his family while he was there.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the Greenwood Center Activities Fund, 1142 Main Street, Sanford, ME 04073.To leave a message of condolence for the family, please click on the tab to the left.
