Paul V. Grant, 93, of Sanford, died February 14 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford after a long illness.He was born in Calais on August 8, 1914, the son of Charles V. and Phelonise (Melanson) Grant, came to this area as a child and attended the former St. Ignatius School.Paul was a veteran of the US Navy during World War II.Upon his return after the war, he was employed with Universal Shoe and then with the Maremont Corp. in Saco, from where he retired several years ago.He was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish at Notre Dame Church in Springvale.Paul was a member of the VFW in Sanford and the Knights of Columbus in Springvale.An outdoors enthusiast, he enjoyed hunting and loved picking apples in the fall. He had many relatives in Canada and liked to travel in his motor home to visit with them. He always had projects going around the house and could be found to be puttering away at them most any time.Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Thelma V. (Newbegin) Grant of Sanford, two daughters, Jackie Vezina and her husband Roger of Florida, Carol Stead and her husband Roger of Virginia, a sister, Beatrice Griffin of Sanford, a half sister, Bertha Tremblay of Connecticut, 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, in Springvale on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 AM in St. Therse of Lisieux Parish at Notre Dame Church in Springvale.
