Sylvio J. Gouin

SANFORD Sylvio J. Gouin 96 died Friday morning at the Newton Center following a long illness. He was born in St. Nobert, P.Q. May 9, 1912 the son of Adelard & Octavie (Jolibois) Gouin. Sylvio was educated at the former Holy Family School. He was a longtime employee at the former Universal Shoe Co. and later at Nike retiring from there. Following his retirement he became the custodian for St. Thomas School and Holy Family Church for fifteen years. He enjoyed working outdoors and playing cards. He most enjoyed doing things with his grandchildren. Sylvio was a life long parishoner of Holy Family Church and a member of the League of the Sacred Heart.His wife Alice Doiron Gouin died in 1999 and his sister Cecile Therrien recently died October 27.Survivors are his daughter, Anne Marie Mosher of Sanford, two sons, Ronald Gouin of Sanford and Michael Gouin of Exeter, NH. His sister Lucienne King of Sanford, four granchildren and four great grandchildren.Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4 to 8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 :00 AM Monday at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church.
