Bruce Goodwin

Bruce A. Goodwin, 78, of Sanford, died on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.Bruce was born in Springvale, Maine on February 2, 1933 to Haven and Gertrude (Wadsworth) Goodwin and attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School. After high school he served for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his military service he enrolled in Nason College in Springvale and graduated with a degree in accounting in 1960. In 1959 he married Marcia Woodford and they spent the next 51 years together and raised five children. Bruce was employed for over 30 years as a tax auditor by the State of Maine. He was a long time member of the North Parish Congregational Church, UCC where he had served as a trustee, treasurer and was a member of the choir.Bruce was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Goodwin and by a sister, Virginia Goodwin.Surviving are his wife, Marcia Goodwin of Sanford; five children, Alan Goodwin and his wife InChu of Tucson, AZ, Mary Braese and her husband Keith of Wells, ME, Lynn Wescott and her husband Jeffrey of Standish, Gary Goodwin and his wife Sherri of Springvale and Matthew Goodwin and his wife Tabatha of Rapid City, SD; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.Services for Bruce will be held at a later date.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the North Parish Congregational Church, 983 Main Street, Sanford, Maine 04073, or the Springvale, Public Library, 443 Main Street, Springvale, ME 04083.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
