Dorothy O. Giroux, 79, a longtime resident of Minerva Avenue in Sanford, passed away peacefully on January 23rd with her children by her side, while visiting her daughter and son-in-law in Naples, Florida from complications of a broken hip. She was born in Epping, NH on March 25, 1926, the daughter of Edward and Irene Castle, and attended schools in New Hampshire. She proudly earned her G.E.D. from Sanford High School in 1975, as she had to leave school to go to work during the depression.She and her husband Willie Giroux moved to Sanford in 1952, owned and operated the former Ideal Restaurant until 1968, and then owned and operated Six G's until their retirement. Willie died in 2004.She was a hard working feisty Irish lady who enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren and later liked to read, knit, watch the Cooking Channel and do puzzles.She will be sadly missed by her four children : Cathy Dion and her husband Dick of Biddeford, Michael Giroux and his wife Celeste of Slidell, LA, Judi Arsenault and her husband Jerry of Sanford and Naples, FL, Tisha White and her husband Lindsay of Center Sandwich, NH. She was Nana to 9 grandchildren and Great Nan to 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Edward Castle of Exeter, NH.Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 10 from 6-8 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 11 at 11 AM in St. Ignatius Church.
