Merton G. Gerrish

Merton G. Gerrish, Sr., 74, of Lebanon, died March 31 at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH after a very brief illness.He was born in Lebanon on May 31, 1932, a son of Theodore R. and Grace (Goodwin) Gerrish, Sr. He attended Lebanon schools and was a graduate of Sanford High School.For many years he owned and operated Seacoast Appraisal Service in Portsmouth, NH, retiring in 1991.An outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, fish and tend to his vegetable gardens. His family recalled how generous and helpful he was, that he loved to cook for family and friends and that many people will mourn the loss of a dependable friend.He was a longtime member of the Springvale Masonic Lodge.His wife, Beatrice (Cole) Gerrish, died in 1991.Survivors include several children, stepchildren, brothers, sisters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.At Mr. Gerrish's request, there will be no services.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
