Muriel E. George, 74, of Shapleigh, passed away on Saturday September 29, 2007 in the presence of her loving family at the H.D. Goodall Hospital following a brief illness. Born on March 28, 1933 in Sanford, Muriel was a daughter of Alphonse R. and Rose M. (St. Cyr) Proulx. The family moved to Mill Street in Springvale where her father ran a family grocery store for years. Muriel attended St. Ignatius Elementary School and then Sanford High School graduating in 1951. Following high school she entered the Order of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in New Hampshire where she taught for a brief number of years. Muriel eventually left the order and returned to Sanford where she worked at the family store-Proulx's Market on High Street. It was here she met her future husband, Louis George and they were married on May 30, 1956 at the Notre Dame Catholic Church in Springvale. They both remained lifelong communicants of the parish. Muriel and Louis then opened George's Antiques where she worked as the business manager until recently.Muriel is predeceased by her parents as well as three sisters, Sr. Rita Marie Proulx PM, Cecile Routhier and Lorraine Juneau.She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Louis A. George of Shapleigh, two daughters, Argilla George Reynolds and her husband, John of Hinesburg, Vermont, Rita George of Sanford, grandchildren, Joshua and Grace Reynolds, Kim Basinger and Emily Roux, great grandchildren, Dylan and Jullian Mitchell, as well as nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday October 2nd at 11am at St. Therse of Liseux Parish- Notre Dame Catholic Church in Springvale. Burial will be at a later date at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the Sr. Rita Marie Proulx Musical Scholarship Fund, Att: Principal Sr. Marie Rosa, 182 Lowell Street, Hudson, NH 03051.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.To leave a message of condolence please use the "condolences" tab to the left.
