Virginia T. Garland, 80, of Lebanon, died on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough.Virginia was born in Shapleigh on February 22, 1931 to William and Pearl (Demmons) Thyng where she grew up and attended local schools. In 1948 she married Ralph M. Garland and they raised four children and spent 38 years together until his death in 1986. Virginia worked for many years at Eastern Plastics in Sanford. She also managed Scala's Sandwich Shop and then went on to work at Sprague Electric where she was employed until she retired in 1991.Virginia enjoyed making crafts and using her computer. In 1998 she began the annual tradition on making a Christmas ornament for each member of her family. The list of people receiving ornaments gradually expanded each year and was up to over 50 at the time of her death. She was a member of the Sanford T.O.P.S. group and was an active member of the Lebanon-North Berwick Baptist Church. Virginia was a dog lover and was particularly fond of her dog Mona. She was a woman with many friends who enjoyed life and loved people. She will be remembered as a kind and loving person and will be dearly missed. Virginia was predeceased by her husband, three brothers, Maynard, Eugene and Arnold, a granddaughter, Candy Kingsbury and her companion, Raymond Tebbetts.Surviving are four children, Ronald Garland and his wife Connie of Sanford, Barry Garland and his wife Karen of Wells, Robert Garland and his wife Sharyn of Danforth, ME and Diane Pitman and her husband Roy of Lebanon; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and relatives of her companion Raymond who she considered her extended family.Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 10th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 11th at the Lebanon-North Berwick Baptist Church located on Little River Road in Lebanon.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Lebanon-North Berwick Baptist Church, P.O.
