Robert T. Gallant, Jr., 79, of Springvale, died at his home on Monday, October 31, 2016. Robert was born on February 6, 1937 to Robert and Florita (Lemieux) Gallant in Sanford where he grew up and attended local schools, graduating from St. Ignatius High School in 1955. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country for four years. While in the Air Force he served as a crew chief of a B-25 bomber. After completing his enlistment Robert returned home and went to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he was employed for over 30 years until his retirement. In 1971 he married Nancy Barrows and together they shared 42 years of marriage until her death in 2013. Robert enjoyed target shooting, late model cars, listening to country music and he loved his dog Charlie. He was a member of the Sanford-Springvale Fish and Game and loved spending time with his wife. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Robert was predeceased by his wife Nancy and by his dog Charlie. Surviving are two children, Jeffrey Gallant and his wife Pamela of Poland, Maine and Diane Hilton of Sanford; five grandchildren, Adam Gallant and his wife Sarah of Kentucky, Callie Gallant, Brent, Ashlin and Jacob Hilton and by his sister, Marguerite Michaud of Sanford. A private family gathering will be held for Robert. Interment will be at the Oakdale Cemetery located on Twombley Road in Sanford. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to an animal shelter of their choice.
