Ivan J. Furbish
Ivan J. Furbish, 63, of Sanford passed away at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Sanford on December 3, 1949 a son of the late Jesse and Rita (Allen) Furbish. A 1968 graduate of Sanford High School, he also graduated from the University of Maine Orono with a degree in forestry.He was employed by Hussey Seating for 37 years. During this time he travelled extensively throughout the world especially China doing stadium seating installations. After he left Hussey Seating he continued doing consultation work with several different companies.Ivan was proud that he resided at the family farm at Oak Hill which has been in the family since 1779. It was his love and passion and it defined him as an individual.Ivan was a member of the Sanford Elk's Lodge and a member of the North Berwick Masonic Lodge. An avid sportsman he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also had a great love for dogs.He is predeceased by his parents.He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Paula Doiron Furbish of Sanford, one son, Jonathan Furbish and his wife, Heather of Sanford, one brother, Lawrence Furbish and his wife, Barbara Sutcliffe of Sanford, sister in law, Pauline Harriman of Sanford, as well as several nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church in Springvale.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
