Albert D. Fournier, 91, of Sanford, died on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Newton Center in Sanford.Albert was born on May 11, 1926 to Augere and Anastasia (Bougie) Fournier in Sanford where he grew up and attended local schools. He proudly served aboard the USS Topeka during World War II and enjoyed traveling to attend the naval ship reunions through the years. During his working life he worked as the manager of the Sanford Laundry. Never one to sit idle, after he retired he began working in maintenance at the American Bank in Sanford. He also served as an election clerk for over 20 years and volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels. In 1955 he married Lea Manseau and together they raised four children and shared 60 years of marriage until her death in 2016.Albert was a devout Catholic and had been a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford. He was an active 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and had served on the Color Guard and as Grand Knight on several occasions. He had a green thumb and grew both flowers and vegetables. Albert was a sports enthusiast and loved watching all of the local professional teams. He enjoyed bowling and also worked as a caddy at the Sanford Country Club when he was young. He was also an animal lover and enjoyed feeding all of the animals in his neighborhood, especially the squirrels. Albert was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed.Albert was predeceased by his wife; by a grandson; by his son-in-law, Robert Davis and by his sister, Cecile Morin.Surviving are four children, Sandra Davis of Sanford, Susan Roux and her husband Stephen of Sanford, Michael Fournier and his wife Holly of Riverside, California and Albert Fournier, Jr. and his wife Donna of Sanford; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a brother, Henry Fournier of South Berwick; a sister, Jeannette LeBlanc of Portland; special friends, Rob and Brenda Osmer of Sanford and many other great friends.There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 8th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford.
