Reggie Fontaine
Armand R. "Reggie" Fontaine, 76, of Alfred, died on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Seal Rock Healthcare Center in Saco.Reggie was born in Springvale on February 22, 1939 to Armand N. and Blanche (Perreault) Fontaine. He grew up in Springvale and Rochester NH where he attended local schools. He spent his adult years in Somersworth N.H. and Sanford. In 1962 he married Adrienne Mercier and together they shared 52 years of marriage and raised three daughters.Reggie worked for most of his life at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He also served in the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard. At heart, his passion was being a mechanic. From early on in his childhood until the day he passed, he had a love of how cars worked and how to fix them.Reggie had five passions in his life: Family, Faith in God, Friends, NASCAR and Genealogy. His family meant everything to him. Holidays were well known times when the house had every member of the family, eating, laughing and finding Easter eggs. He loved playing Santa at Christmas. He was a very active member of St. Therese Parish and participated in many projects. He was a faithful volunteer at the Springvale Soup Kitchen for over 20 years. His friends were a very important part of his life; Reggie enjoyed men's group, playing cards and working on racecars. He loved watching NASCAR races, especially while napping and he had a genealogy collection of epic proportions.Reggie was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, most recently the St. Thomas Council of Sanford. He was also a fourth degree and held numerous positions including Grand Knight, District Deputy and Faithful Navigator.Reggie was predeceased by his parents, his only sibling, Madeleine Lessard of Sanford, and his in-laws Henry and Eva Mercier.Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Adrienne (Mercier) Fontaine; three daughters, Michelle Butler and her husband Joseph of Auburn MA, Simonne Maline and her husband Walter of Augusta ME and Nicolle DeRoche and her husband Corey of Sanford; four grandchildren, Shannon and Samuel Butler of Auburn MA and Brittany Fontaine and Tyler Ferland of Sanford and four nieces.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, April 1st at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment with military honors will follow at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery located on Stanley Road in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the Capitol Campaign at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, 66 North Avenue, Sanford ME 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
