Byron Fletcher, 92, of Springvale, died May 31 at home after a lengthy illness.He was born in Shapleigh on July 16, 1921, the son of Charles F. and Bertha (Flanders) Fletcher.Byron served in the US Army during World War II in Germany. It was there that he met his wife Martina. They returned to this area and enjoyed over 50 years of marriage. She died several years ago.He was a 50+ year member of the Pleasant Street Free Baptist Church in Springvale.He was a longtime employee of Cyro in Sanford, retiring several years ago. He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.Besides his wife Martina, he was predeceased by a brother George Fletcher, and two sisters, Althea Hasty and Katherine Fisk.Survivors include two sisters, Rosetta Ducharme of Springvale and Glenna Krampitz of Connecticut.Committal prayers and burial with military honors will take place on Monday, June 16 at 1:00 PM at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road in Springvale, with the Rev. Will Pierce, pastor of the Pleasant Street Free Baptist Church officiating.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
