James H. Fitzgerald

James H. "Fitzy" Fitzgerald, 91, of Acton, a longtime resident of Lynn, MA, died November 15 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford after a brief illness.He was born in Lynn, MA on August 23, 1922, the son of Patrick J. and Katherine (Scully) Fitzgerald, attended Lynn schools and was a graduate of Lynn Trade Vocational High School.Fitzy was employed as a master machinist with General Electric Corp. in W. Lynn, MA for many years, retiring in 1984.Fitzy and his wife Evelyn purchased property on Loon Pond in Acton and began summering there in 1954. They move there permanently upon his retirement in 1984. He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church in Springvale.He was an active golfer, playing many courses including Happy Valley in Lynn and all along Cape Cod. While a resident of Lynn he was a league bowler. He loved snowmobiling and only gave that up a few years ago.His family recalled that he was possessed of an Irish wit, a remarkable sense of humor.Survivors include his wife of over 66 years, Evelyn (Roche) Fitzgerald of Acton, daughter Sheila DellaCroce and her husband Rocco, Jr. of Lynn, MA, son James Fitzgerald of Lynn, MA, son Patrick J. Fitzgerald and his wife Monica of Springvale, a cousin, Kay Scully of Lynn, MA, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Burial will be Wednesday at 1:30 PM at St. James Cemetery in Haverhill, MA.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
