Carolyn M. Essel
Carolyn Munnick Essel, 92 of Lyman, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough, daughter of the late Gunnar and Borghild Wollen Munnick.She was an accomplished pianist, studying at the New England Conservatory of Music and playing a Mozart Concerto on the piano with a full orchestra in Boston at the age of 21. She taught music and was a church organist for many years. In 1975, she graduated from Bridgewater State University, Summa Cum Laude, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education and in 1982 she received her Master of Education degree, also from Bridgewater State College. She worked as a Special Education Teacher until her retirement, working with children with disabilities. She enjoyed spending her later years quilting, crocheting, knitting, sharing many quilts, towels, wash cloths, hats and scarves as gifts. She loved to garden, getting manicures and pedicures, shop and travel. God, family, music and living on Kennebunk Pond in Maine were most important to her. She spent as much time as possible playing music with her daughter Paula on two pianos. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.She was a loving wife and is predeceased by husbands Robert Duling, Paul Single, Albert Saunders and Hubert Essel. She is survived by her children Ellen Vigil of East Boston, William Single and his wife Irene of Lyman, Paula Squires of Boston, daughters in law Jean Duling and Veronica Single of Lyman. She is predeceased by her children Wesley Duling and Gunnar Single, her brother Gunnar Munnick, Jr, and her sister Jetta Bates.Viewing hours will be from 12:00 noon on at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 2 Lord Street in Kennebunk, Maine on Saturday, October 21 and a service will be held to celebrate her life at 2:00 p.m. after the viewing.
