Emmanuel D. "Manny" Dureau, 87, of Sanford, died on Monday, November 9, 2009 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.Manny was born in Springvale on July 30, 1922 to Joseph and Beatrice Caron Dureau and attended Notre Dame School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his military service he worked for a time in the Sanford shoe shops. In 1946 he married Viola Morrissette and together the couple had four children. In the early 1950's Manny began selling insurance and soon opened the Dureau Insurance Agency, which he owned and operated for 30 years until his retirement in 1987.Manny was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish Sanford/Springvale and volunteered for nearly 20 years at the Sanford Free Meal Kitchen. He was a very hard working man and had a weakness for chocolate. Family was very important to Manny. He always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Manny was predeceased by his wife Viola and by a son Richard.Surviving are three daughters, Bettie Ann Smith and her husband Jerome of Sanford, Katherine Dionne and her husband Kevin of Sanford and Laurie Ann Ross and her husband Brian of Sanford; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a sister Doris Forest and her husband Frank of Rochester, New Hampshire.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 AM on Friday, November 13th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church located on North Avenue in Sanford.
