Andre Dumont
Andre J. Dumont, 94, of Shapleigh, died on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Newton Center in Sanford.Andre was born in Trois Pistol, Quebec on October 31, 1915 to Joseph and Apauline (Parent) Dumont; the ninth of 17 children. When he was six years old his family moved to the United States. In 1940 he married Doris Haycock and together the couple would raise four children. Throughout his life, Andre was always a very hard working man. He worked in Newport, NH as a lumberjack, the Limerick Mills and then at the South Portland Shipyard for three years. In 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country in World War II. He was a member of the Headquarter Co., 15th Regiment, and 3rd Division and was stationed in France and Germany. After leaving the service Andre went to work as a millwright in the Sanford mills. After the mills closed he went to work in Millinocket, ME. He later worked as a construction worker while they were building Pease Airforce Base working in the asphalt plant and also helping with the bridge construction. Andre's final place of employment was at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he worked for 30 years. He became a boiler maker and worked his last job as a boiler inspector retiring in 1992 at the age of 77.Andre was a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church in Springvale. He was also a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening and having get-togethers with family and friends. He will be remembered as a kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Andre was predeceased by his wife, Doris in 2003, his granddaughter, Kierstin in 2002 and by several brothers and sisters.Surviving are 3 sons, Arthur Dumont and his wife Cecile (Dubois) of Sanford, Robert Dumont and his wife Stella (Belanger) of Shapleigh and Roger Dumont and his wife Bonnie ( Eubar) Harpswell; a daughter, Anne Marie Dumont and her friend Kim Sutton of Swampsea, South Carolina; 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 siblings, Jeannette Girard of Springvale, Joseph Dumont Jr. of Brunswick, Simone Fortier of Concord, NH, Conrad Dumont of Sidney, Maine and Lillian Couture of Sanford, Maine. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 1st at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 2nd at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, located on Payne Street in Springvale.
