Ronald G. "Butch" Dugre, 76, a former Chief of Police for the City of Sanford, died August 19 at home after a lengthy illness.He was born in Springvale on February 22, 1939, the son of Amedee and Marieange (Sevigny) Dugre. He was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School, Southern Maine Community College and the University of Southern Maine. Additionally he completed many law-enforcement related courses of study including the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA.Ron joined the Sanford Police Department in 1969. He rose through the ranks, becoming Chief of Police. He retired from the department in 1993.In his retirement, he worked for the Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport and Delray Beach, Florida. He also spent several winters in St. Petersburg, Florida.Ron loved sports. He was a fan of the teams of Sanford High School and the Sanford Mainers where he and his wife had season tickets for years. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Sanford Country Club. He also enjoyed hunting and bowling.His family recalled his generosity. It was not uncommon for him and his wife to take people into their home and to provide for their needs.Ron was predeceased by a son, David Dugre in 1996 and by a brother, Richard W. "Duke" Dugre in 2013.Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lorina (Lacroix) Dugre of Sanford, son Marc Dugre and his wife Trish of Sanford, daughter, Darlene Sprague and her husband Corey of Gorham, brothers Robert Dugre of Florida, Roger Dugre of Limerick, sister Irene Mutty of Lansing, Michigan, five grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 27 from 4 to 7 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 28 at 10:00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church in Springvale. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Waban Projects, 5 Dunaway Drive, Sanford, ME 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
