Urbain L. Doyle
Urbain L. 'Derby' Doyle, 84, of Sanford, died peacefully on February 16, 2009 after a long illness. He was the loving son of Austin and Alice (Grondin) Doyle. Born on July 1, 1924, in Sanford, he attended local schools and graduated from Sanford High School in 1943. He was 6th in his class, captain of the baseball team, played on the football team and was the recipient of the Campbell Cup.During WWII, he served in the 8th Air Force in Europe as a B-24 Bomber Navigator. After the war, he attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated as a chemical engineer.He worked for Wasco Chemical Company in Sanford. In 1960 he moved his family to West Peru, Maine in order to work at Oxford Paper Company. Then in 1964, he again returned to Sanford to work at Cyro Industries. Fellow employees often said he 'ran' rather then walked. He retired from Cyro in 1986.He was an avid Red Sox fan who was grateful to have lived long enough to see the curse of the Bambino broken. He was a violinist who played Irish Jigs as well as classical, and spent many blissful hours enjoying music.Urbain was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Elsie and Delina. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lorraine (Chabot) Doyle of Sanford, five daughters, Anita and her husband, Tom Hickman of Pulaski, Tennessee, Margaret and her husband, Mark Garland of Springvale, Linda and her husband, Andrew Yakas of Walpole, Massachusetts, Kathleen Fougere and her partner, Mike Snyder of Cape Neddick and Kelly and her husband, Mike Jollotta of Sanford and one son, Ronald and his wife, Carlene (Waitt) of Sanford. He will be greatly missed by his 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren who loved his'pepere breakfasts'.Visiting hours will be on Friday from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11am at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church in Springvale.
