Kathy Lavine Desmarais
Kathy Lavine-Desmarais, 43, of Ogunquit, died at the Maine Medical Center in Portland on Saturday, November 28, 2009. Kathy was born in Chicopee, Massachusetts on September 12, 1966 to Francis and Barbara (Proulx) Lavine and attended local schools, graduating from Chicopee High School in 1984. She had worked as a florist in the family flower business for many years before moving to Maine in 1998. Kathy was a fun loving woman who enjoyed her life to the fullest. She enjoyed traveling and had gone on many cruises including trips through the Mediterranean and to Aruba. She was a very outgoing people person who easily made friends wherever she went. She enjoyed designing different flower arrangements and had made wreaths and floral pieces for all of her caregivers at Maine Medical Center. Family time was always very important to Kathy and she particularly enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a kind and loving woman with a generous heart and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Kathy was predeceased by a sister, Karen Lavine. Surviving are her parents, Fran and Barbara Lavine of Ogunquit; two brothers, Michael Lavine and his wife Kim and Scott Lavine and his wife Renee of Bedford, New Hampshire; two nieces, Samantha and Jessica; five nephews, Nathan, Craig, Andrew, Daniel and Timothy; several godchildren and her dog Buster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 5th at St. Martha's Church of Holy Spirit Parish located 32 Portland Road in Kennebunk. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses on PC3D at Maine Medical Center and the home health care aids who gave devoted and loving care to Kathy during her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, c/o Dr. Jonathan Zuckerman, 335 Brighton Ave, Portland, ME 04102.
