Harland W. Day

Harland W. Day Jr. (Sonny), 75, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, 2010, at his home in Sanford, ME after a brief illness. He was born on April 16, 1934, in Springvale, ME, the son of the late Harland W. Sr. and Helen (Hurd) Day. Harland was a graduate of Sanford High School class of 1952. After high school, he served in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged. From there he worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for several years. Harland and Arlene (Andrews) Day were married on July 30, 1965. He was a life-long Maine resident until moving to Mesa, AZ in the mid-1980's. Harland then split his residency between Maine and Mesa, Arizona; spending the majority of his time in Arizona. After the birth of his granddaughter, he spent a greater amount of time in Maine.Harland was a member of the American Legion and the AmVets in Sanford. He and his wife Arlene enjoyed socializing and he was known for his sense of humor and listening ear.He was predeceased by an older sister, Roberta (Day) Evarts.He is survived by his wife Arlene, daughter Sharlene Troop, and granddaughter Isabella Troop.At his request, there will be no public services.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.To leave the family a message of condolence please use the "condolences" tab to the left.
