Raymond E. Davis passed away September 12, 2015, after 86 full years. Ray was a lifelong resident of Sanford, but he wintered in Florida for a number of years.Ray was born on Christmas day 1928 in Sanford, the only child of Louie and Bernice (Bun) Davis. He graduated from Sanford High in 1946. He married Ferne Smith on August 16, 1947 and together they raised three children.Ray worked in the mills, at the family business, Lou's Boatyard and at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.Ray enjoyed a long retirement and was fortunate to travel throughout the world and the US. Many of the trips were taken by Ray, Ferne, Louie, and Bun. When not traveling, Ray enjoyed time with family and friends. He spent many hours on Mousam Lake at the Davis family camp. He enjoyed boating, motorcycles, snowmobiling, and NASCAR racing. He also attended many of his grandchildrens' and great grandchildrens' activities. Ray especially loved chocolate whether it was candies, pudding or ice cream. Ray was a member of the Sanford Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.Ray was predeceased by his parents, his son Bob, and his son-in-law Gil Dionne.He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ferne Davis, his daughter Linda Dionne, his son Ken Davis and wife Susan, his daughter-in-law Sandra Davis; his grandchildren Kelly Rouillard, Scott Davis, Michelle Sheppard, Chrissy Dionne, and Todd Davis; his great grandchildren AJ Davis, Madison Sheppard, Megan Sheppard, and Aryanna Davis; also his first cousin Bruce McCombe and wife Renee Bush. He will be missed by many but is in a better place now.The family would like to thank Dr. Lincourt and the staff of Newton Center. Visiting hours will be 4 to 6pm on Wednesday September 16, at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale. The Burial will be private at Oakdale Cemetery.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider making a donation to the charity of ones's choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
