Walter L. "Sparky" Davis, 78, of Alfred, died unexpectedly at home on March 24.He was born in Sanford on March 22, 1929, the son of Lloyd W. and Dorothy Mae (Jones) Davis, moved to Alfred as a child and attended Alfred schools.Sparky was employed for many years with Hazen Carpenter. For the past 25 years he has been working for Frank Scott Paving and then F. R. Carroll in Limerick. In the winter, he plowed roads for the town of Alfred.He loved to cut wood and ride his tractor. He was a NASCAR fan and he liked to collect John Deere memorabilia. His family recalled how he loved to spend time with them and that he would look forward to his evening bowl of ice cream.He was predeceased by a son, Lloyd Davis in 1999 and by a brother, Donald Davis in his childhood.Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Wilma P. (Hooper) Davis of Alfred, 3 daughters, Judy Donnelly of Highland, NY, Darlene Davis-Yates and her husband Stephen of Alfred, Delynn Davis-Washington and her husband John II of Sanford, a granddaughter Amanda Jade Donnelly of Highland, NY, a grandson John Washington, III of E. Baldwin, and a sister, Ruth Rankin of Sanford.A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday at 1:00 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
