Estelle Curley, 100, of Sanford, passed away peacefully at the Newton Center in Sanford on December 10, 2007.She was born in Island Falls on April 17, 1907, the daughter of Edward and Lavinia (Goodman) Fogg and attended schools there.In 1928, she and her sister Natalie moved to Biddeford to attend the Webber Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1931 as a Registered Nurse. She worked at the Webber Hospital until she married Ralph Curley, Sr., and they moved to Sanford in 1937 where she worked at the Goodall Hospital, at various nursing homes and as a private duty nurse. She later worked as a mender at the Goodall-Sanford Textile Mills until 1954, then she returned to nursing.Estelle was an avid reader and did the daily jumble and crossword puzzles in the newspaper. A resident of Mayflower Place in Sanford, she enjoyed playing Bingo and her almost daily cribbage game with her son Ralph. Family members recalled that she was a loving mother and grandmother who liked to knit, enjoyed long drives in the country and who was a great cook. She always looked forward to visits from family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to watch the birds and to cuddle up with her dogs on the couch while she played cribbage.Estelle was predeceased by her husband, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.Survivors include her son, Ralph Curley, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Sanford, 3 grandchildren, Christine Smith and her husband Christopher of Gorham, Timothy Curley of Alfred, Kathleen Curley of Torrance, CA, 7 great grandchildren, Shawn, Morgan, Grace and Timothy Curley, Erin, Julia and Caroline Smith, a nephew, David Rowe of Portland, and a niece, Lily Sirois and her husband Jeremy of Biddeford.A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday at 11 AM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. Burial will be in the spring in Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Mayflower Place Activities Fund, 27 Mayflower Drive, Sanford, ME 04073.
