Evelyn Cross, 76, of West Newfield passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 20th. She was born in Portland on July 7, 1940 the daughter of the late Clifford and Madge (Foster) White, where she grew up graduating from Portland High School in 1958.She moved to Westbrook in the 1960's where she resided for over 40 years. Evelyn worked at Shaw's supermarket for 20 years and at Unum for many years retiring in 1999.Evelyn was a member of the Longfellow Sweetheart Red Hat Society andenjoyed many get togethers with her fellow red hat sisters. She was also a Nifty Knitter making countless hats and mittens for the newborns at Mercy hospital, as well as sweaters, blankets and scarves. She was an avid sports fan of all sports but particularly NASCAR following Dale Earnhardt and was heart broken at his passing. She also rooted for the Boston Red Sox along with the Steelers and Patriots. Evelyn touched many lives along the way and had many friends including her loyal and dear friend Jeanne LeClair and husband Bud of Westbrook for more than 50 years. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.Evelyn's greatest joy was spending time with her family and their friends playing dominoes, barbecuing and pool time with her great grandson Colton. Survivors include her daughter Kimmy and her husband Perry Guay of West Newfield with whom she resided with, a son Mike Cross and fiance Debbie McCarthy of Waterboro, a brother, Harry White and his wife Margaret of Scarborough, four grandsons Joshua Quint of King George VA, Justin Quint USAF of Shreveport LA, Cody Quint of West Newfield and Cole Cross of Gorham, a great grandson Colton Quint of West Newfield whom she adored, her Auntie Bea Bushey of Portland and her very special niece, Kathleen White Reid and husband Beau of South Portland along with many cousins. Evelyn also leaves behind her beloved dog Browning. She was predeceased by her parents, and her son Jeff Cross whom she lost on October 11, 2015. At Evelyn's request there will be no calling hours. Family and Friends are invited to a celebration of Evelyn's life at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday November 5th at the Orchard Community Church, 1 North St, Rt. 114 Gorham.
