Mariette Couture

Mariette Couture, 97, of Sanford passed away on November 27, 2020 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. She was born on June 14, 1923 one of seventeen children to the late Henry and Marie-Anna (Gendreau) Durand in Sanford where she was a lifelong resident and attended Holy Family School. Mariette was communicant of St. Therese of Lisieux Parish and attended Holy Family Church until her health prevented her from doing so. When she was young she worked at Universal Shoe in Sanford and then was employed at Sprague Electric until her retirement in 1986. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was meticulous at preserving memories with family photographs and albums. Aside from being family oriented, she liked to keep to herself to read and watch television. Mariette lived a long, full life with many stories and triumphs over the years. She is predeceased by her husband Roland Couture who passed away in 1971, fifteen of her siblings, a grandson Jason Laferriere, and a great grandson Zachary Roger Nickerson and a son in law Ronald Laferriere. Survivors include her son Roger Couture and his wife Rita of Sanford, her daughter Claire Laferriere of Hyde Park, NY, her sister Fernande Bougie of Sanford and grandchildren Jennifer Nickerson and her husband Darrell of Sanford and Anna Gustafson and her husband Matthew of Hyde Park, NY, great grandchildren Jackson, Sarah, Kyle, and Andrew Nickerson, and step great grandchildren Dylan and Emily Gustafson, and several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service was held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at St. Ignatius Cemetery, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Ave., Sanford.
