Leona Marie Cote, 73, from Sanford, ME, living in Springvale, ME, passed away peacefully on Friday July 27th, 2018 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. She had been battling with COPD, a degenerative lung disease, for many years.Leona was born in Sanford on August 10th, 1944, the daughter of the late Leo Chevalier and Annette Martin Chevalier. She attended St. Ignatius School and obtained her GED in 1972. She then enrolled in the Grey School of Business taking Executive Secretarial courses and continued her education by earning over 36 credits for her Liberal Arts Degree at York County Community College and the University of Maine. In 1986 she became a certified tax preparer through H&R Block and later took online paralegal courses. In 1988 Leona started working for the VNA Services and then started her own successful cleaning business by providing outstanding service and garnering the trust of all her clients. In 1996 Leona starting working for Lincare where she excelled in a customer service role. She worked there until 2005.In 1974 she made her Cursillo. That decision changed her life. She went on to be Rectora for several future Cursillo weekends and was on team for many more. She became very involved in the church as well and loved taking her family to Mass. She had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary.Leona loved her family deeply and adored spending time with them. Whether it was hosting family functions where she made her famous apple pie and pecan pies, attending sporting events or spending time at the beach, she cherished it all. She also loved the Dallas Cowboys, Boston Celtics, Tom Brady and the Patriots, her cat Midnight, farm fresh vegetables, lobster, fried clams, the The Pier french fries from Old Orchard Beach, fried dough, listening to Elvis Presley and dancing to oldies songs.Leona is survived by her son Bryan Libbey and his wife Kim Guinard Libbey of Wells, ME, her son Robert Cote of Sanford, ME and her son Steve Cote and his wife Debora Cote of Nashua, NH. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Kaylin Harris, Justin Libbey, Robert Cote Jr., Amber Single, Tyler Cote and Julia and Sophia Cote. Additionally she had 2 great grandchildren, Levi Single and Levi Harris. She is also survived by her siblings Arthur Chevalier, Lorraine Chevalier, Joyce and Alan Cote, and Ron and Dyanne Chevalier. Leona was predeceased by her son Wade Cote of Milford, NH and sister Dorothy Gilbert of Dover, NH.Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 31st at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday August 1st, at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford.
